Apollo - Interference, Dazzle, Sparkle Ink
Screen printing Dazzle colours are produced using very thin crystalline platelet
pigments. When printed these platelets are readily oriented into parallel layers. As these platelets are
transparent, they reflect only part of any incident light falling on them. The rest passes through the platelet
and strikes those platelets below, this causes an iridescent lustre or "pearl" effect. The colour effects come
from a very thin coloured layer deposited onto these platelets. Laminating Dazzle Inks are produced using
these platelet pigments.
Dazzle inks exhibit two colours, one by reflection of light and the other by transmission of light. Thus, a
colour may be red when viewed in one direction and gold when viewed in another. The same colour
printed both over white and black will produce two different effects.
The inks shown in the Apollo special effect book are printed over black. Different effects are seen if printed
over white.
