Screen Printing – Trouble Shooting Guide
Screen Printing – Trouble Shooting Guide
Jagged edges:
➢ Increase mesh count
➢ Increase stencil thickness and reduce Rz value
➢ Properly control the exposure time of the emulsion.
Fray edge
➢ Appropriately reduce the thickness of the stencils
➢ Change to a higher mesh count.
pinhole
➢ Replace the screen with a large opening
Screen Printing Problems and Solutions
Poor adhesion:
➢ The cure time is too short, and the ink is not fully cured
➢ The selected ink series does not match the substrate
➢ Curing agent type/ratio/mixing issues
➢ Material surface is dirty/unevenly treated
Uneven color:
➢Ink mixing insufficient
➢Ink viscosity not suitable
➢Printed ink film thickness uneven (printing parameters/scraping scars/scraping pressure uneven/printing surface uneven/ink dripping during printing, etc.)
➢Incompatible solvent or pigment layering added to ink
➢Screen effect (Fray edge/blocking screen)
➢Poor sticking/lifting plate
Surface Tension Too Low:
➢ The surface tension of the printing substrate is too low or the tension is uneven/grease contamination
➢ Ink viscosity is too low
➢ Silicon-free ink does not match the underlying ink (containing silicon)
➢ The thickness of the ink layer is too thin
Bubbles on the printing substrates:
➢ Ink viscosity is too high
➢ Fast drying solvent effect
➢ Insufficient addition of ink defoamer
➢ Printing speed is too fast
➢ The screen distance is set too low and the plate release is abnormal
Pin Hole:
➢Screen defects
➢Debris/dust blocking screen
➢Foreign matter on substrates
➢Ink particle size and screen mesh matching issues
➢Poor ink leveling
Orange peel:
➢ Low surface tension or uneven tension in the printing substrate
➢ Ink viscosity too high
➢ Ink flow leveling not good
➢ Effect by Fast Thinner
➢ Effect by mesh counter
Sawtootth on edges:
➢ Influence of mesh counter
➢ Effect by tensioning angle of the mesh
➢ Stencils layer thickness too thin (20% mesh thickness)
➢ Poor flow leveling due to high ink viscosity
➢ Printing on abrasive materials surface
